This is a very family oriented holiday and usually gifts are given within the family. One tradition is children will give a deep bow to their elders while saying 새해 복 많이 받으세요 (saehae bok mani badeuseyo), which means "Please receive a lot of good fortune for the New Year". After the children do the bow, the elders will usually reward this gesture by giving the children money that is in silk bags with traditional Korean designs and will offer them some words of wisdom.
